Dartmouth Park Hill
London N6 5HG

Waterlow Park is a 26-acre park to the south east of Highgate Village, a short walk away from the Whittington Hospital. It was given to the public by Sir Sydney Waterlow, as a garden for the gardenless in 1889. Set on a hillside, the park offers fantastic scenic views across London, and there are also some beautiful ponds where the children can feed the ducks. There is a nice little enclosed playground for under 5s as well as a beautifully designed play area for older children with wooden climbing structures and areas where they can develop their balance and agility. Lauderdale House (an arts and education centre) and its formal gardens, giant sundial, fountain, and cafe are at the edge of the park. Parents with small children should be warned that there are no changing facilities.

Opening Hours: Park open daily til dusk. Cafe open Tues – Sunday.

I really like Waterlow Park. It’s got a great feel to it, with the gardens and cafe of Lauderdale House (and various activities), the large duck pond, the new wooden play area for older children, the play area for very young children, the winding paths in amongst trees and sloping hills and lots of benches to sit on. I would recommend if you fancy an explore round the park one afternoon and it has good transport links too.
