Old Bull and Bush in Hampstead Garden Suburb

One of North London’s famous landmark pubs dating back to 1721, serving meze, salad, pizza, pasta, rotisserie chicken and gastro-pub style food. They also have a prix fixe menu from 12 noon – 6 pm from Monday to Friday for just 6.95. Just across the road is Golders Hill Park, with lovely gardens, a butterfly house, animal enclosures, a children’s playground and buggy fitness classes.

Janis I look after the day-to-day running of ReallyKidFriendly.com, as well as some geeky stuff behind the scenes. Thanks to my two boisterous rascals (aged 4 and 5), I have become an expert in soft play areas, parks, energetic music classes, and where to get a stiff drink once the kids have gone to bed. Really – ask me anything!

Great for a grown-up lunch after a walk in the park

This pub is right by the entrance to Golders Hill Park and a better bet than the cafe nearby if you fancy a more grown up lunch, maybe on a Sunday. Although it has a modern gastro feel, the staff were totally relaxed with the kids, providing high chairs, moving tables around and speeding our order through before the inevitable toddler boredom was able to set in. We got there at 12 ahead of the later busy period. Prices were obviously a step up from the cafe, but by no means outrageous. I even had the rare luxury of reading a few pages of the paper – a distant reminder of those pre-kid Sundays we used to have!
