We went to one of Leeds Castle’s special jousting days during the Summer half term break. At £16.50 per adult and £9.50 for children aged 4 and over, it’s not cheap, but the good news is that those tickets cover you for entry for the next 12 months after your visit – so as a ‘season ticket’ it’s pretty good. There are two jousting shows at 12.30pm and 2.30pm and both were very busy, but there was just about enough room to get a good view of the action. After the jousting we walked round the inside of the castle which wasn’t that interesting for the kids (not enough knights / medieval stuff). We then went round the maze, had ice cream and a squeezed in a quick trip into the aviaries.
It’s a pretty long day for children with a lot of walking (the path from the car park to the castle is quite a hike), it might be an idea to take a pram or to split your trips to Leeds Castle up (using the useful season ticket deal!) so that the kids don’t get too tired to enjoy it! Combining the visit with an event was a good idea, the jousting was a real high point of the day; they have lots of regular special events that are listed on the website.
