Janis I look after the day-to-day running of ReallyKidFriendly.com, as well as some geeky stuff behind the scenes. Thanks to my two boisterous rascals (aged 4 and 5), I have become an expert in soft play areas, parks, energetic music classes, and where to get a stiff drink once the kids have gone to bed. Really – ask me anything!

We went to Hampton Court with friends that knew it very well on a really sunny day. We didn’t pay to go into the house itself but spent about £4 per adult getting into the ‘formal gardens’ which seemed like good value for money. There’s not a massive amount for kids to do but they seemed happy enough just running around and were tired out by the end of the day, too tired to go into the maze anyway, which is supposed to be good. A couple of things worth knowing – there’s lots of quite deep gravel in the gardens, so pushing a pram can get very tricky and the baby changing facilities at the Tiltyard Cafe (great food) are limited to a counter area in the ladies loo, so it’s not possible for dads to do nappy changes, which was slightly annoying / provided the perfect excuse depending on how you look at it! The area outside the Tiltyard Cafe also seemed to be a natural congregating area for kids and ours were happy running around there for ages.

Went to Hampton Court on a sunny Octob4er day with 6 (gulp) kids aged 13 to 2 and had a great day out. The older ones loved the buildings and the hisory – the information in the rooms is accessible and really well-laid out; we all loved wearing the velvet capes that you had borrow, the younger ones loved the craft activities and the people (especially the Queen) in formal costumes who are walking around. The gardens are great and there is obviously the Maze to kill some time in.
