Frequently Asked Questions

What is Really Kid Friendly?

Really Kid Friendly is an online guide to how child friendly pubs, restaurants, cafes, parks and days out in London really are. We've collected as much information as possible about each of the businesses in our directory to help you choose great places to go and things to do with your children.

Besides the basic information (address, map, etc) you will find really useful details such as whether there are highchairs, a kids menu, toys or crayons to distract your little ones, entertainment, outdoor seating, stair-free access, wide doorways and so on.

Better still, you can read reviews of restaurants, cafes, playgrounds, museums and playgroups (and whatever else you can think of!) from people who have actually been there with kids. You can also write a review of anywhere you've been, or if you've discovered a great child friendly pub, exercise class, or any other type of business, you can add it to our directory. If you're stuck for ideas about things to do with your children, have a look at what's on, popular searches, top rated businesses, or the featured venue on our homepage. Or why not get some inspiration from another parent's list of favourites on their profile page?

What will my registration details be used for?

Your registration details will be used to help us tailor our website so that our users have the best experience possible. We will never pass your registration details on to anyone else.

You can also use your profile page to provide additional details about yourself and your family, and specify which bits of information are visible to visitors to our website. Not only does this help us to further improve our website and choose appropriate advertisers, it helps create that community feel! For example, you could use Really Kid Friendly to find other members in your neighbourhood, or other parents with twins, or with kids of a similar age to yours. By making your contact details public, other parents can contact you to ask for advice, or even arrange a play date or coffee morning.

What is "My Profile"?

Your profile is a mini web page we've created just for you. It contains all of the reviews you have written, including your draft reviews, as well as a list of all your favourite businesses. You can also use your profile page to tell people more about yourself and your children and upload a photo or avatar to be displayed alongside each of your reviews.

Can I update my profile?

Yes, you can update your profile whenever you like - just log in, go to My profile by clicking on the link at the top of the page, and click on "edit details or privacy settings".

Which parts of my profile can others see?

You can control which information is visible to others. For example, you may wish to display the name of your neighbourhood and some basic details about your children, but not your contact details. To change the privacy settings for any piece of information, just log in, go to profile by clicking on the link at the top of the page, and click on "edit details or privacy settings". Tick "private" if you do not want visitors to our website to see those details.

What is my "screen name"?

This is the name that visitors to our website will see. You can use your real name, your initials, or even some quirky pseudonym if you like - it's up to you.

Who can look at the reviews?

Anyone can use our website to look up venues and read reviews. You don't need to log in to read reviews or search the directory.

Who writes the reviews?

The reviews on our website were written by parents, grandparents, and carers - people who have actually been to pubs, restaurants, cafes or other venues with kids. Anyone can write a review, but you need to register or log in first.

How do I review a business?

Start by clicking on a "write a review" button or link - you'll find one on our homepage as well as on each business page on our site. Follow the instructions on the screen to find the business you'd like to review. Once you've selected a business to review:

  • Tick the "this business is one of my favourites" box if you'd like to add this business to the list of favourites on your profile page.
  • Rate your overall experience from 0 to 5 stars (0 = terrible, 5 = excellent).
  • Rate your experience from 0 to 5 stars (0 = terrible, 5 = excellent) in terms of buggy friendliness, kids menu, breastfeeding friendliness, service, value for money, and so forth.
  • Tell us who you thought the business best suited by ticking the appropriate boxes in the "best for" section. Below are some of our thoughts about what parents and carers may be looking for...

    New Baby:

Easy buggy access, space for the buggy next to the table, a positive attitude to breastfeeding, bottle warming facilities, baby changing facilities, room to bring the buggy into the toilets, and possibly a relaxing environment without too many older kids!

    6-12 months:

Easy buggy access, high chairs, facilities for heating baby food or bottles, fresh or packaged baby food available, a positive attitude to breastfeeding, baby changing facilities, enough room to bring the buggy into the toilets, soft play area, etc.

    Toddlers:

Space for and an acceptance of toddlers running around and being a bit unruly, highchairs and/or booster seats, kids menu or small portions, speedy service, distractions or entertainment appropriate to this age group, child height toilets, baby changing facilities, etc.

    Pre-school:

Kids menu or small portions, speedy service, child height toilets, distractions or entertainment appropriate to this age group, etc.

    Schoolchildren:

Kids menu or small portions, distractions and entertainment appropriate to this age group.

    Twins and Multiples:

Facilities suited to the age of the kids (as above), plus easy access for a double-buggy, room for a double buggy in the baby changing area and in the toilets, and an enclosed play area so that both kids are safe even when they run off in opposite directions.

    Impaired Mobility:

Facilities suited to the age of the kids (as above), plus disabled toilets and stair-free access.

    Large Groups:

Facilities suited to the age of the kids (as above), plus enough room to cater for 6 or more people in a group. For younger children (new babies, 6 - 12 months and toddlers), there should also be several highchairs and room for 3 or more buggies.

  • Write your review. You can write anything you like (within reason!)... If you had a great experience, tell us what made it so great, whether it was having a safe enclosed area for your twins to run around, your child's meal was served quickly, there were comfy couches for breastfeeding, or simply a great attitude to kids! If you had a terrible experience, try and be constructive - who knows, the venue owners may read your review and be prompted to make some improvements. Even if you have sworn never to go back, your comments can help make someone else's experience more enjoyable.
  • Submit your review by clicking on the "submit" button. You can preview it first if you like.
Can I save a draft review and come back to it later?

Absolutely. We know all too well that kids have a knack for waking from a nap or wanting your attention just when you're in the middle of doing something. If this happens while you're writing your review, don't worry, you can save your review at any point and come back to it later. Clicking "save to my draft reviews folder" does exactly that. When you're ready, whether it's minutes, days or weeks later, just log in and your draft review will be waiting there for you on your profile page.
