Dan & DeCarlo Cafe: A favourite amongst North London parents
20 High Road
London N2 9PJ
Lovely italian cafe across from East Finchley station serving hot meals (aubergine parmigiana, lasagne, …), toasted sandwiches, pastries, cupcakes, and rich italian coffee. Children are welcome, and there is room for a couple of buggies during quiet periods. They serve babyccinos for the children and you can order toast or small portions from the deli counter for them if you’re staying for lunch. The large communal table at the front has some cute books for babies and children as well as plenty of newspapers for the parents, and there are tables around back if you need a bit more privacy to feed the baby. Parents of young children will be pleased to know that while it lacks a changing table, there is a toilet for customers at the rear of the cafe. Danny and the cafe’s staff are very friendly and are fast making D&D’s a favourite amongst the locals.

Friendly, good value, and great coffee!
We have become regulars in Dan & Decarlo since it opened last year. A great independent cafe – the decor is clean and simple and the owner, Dan, and staff are always really welcoming. The coffee is great and there is plenty of seating – their free babyccinos are a real hit with my son! They do great pastries as well as pasta/paninis too. They have a larger area at the back of the cafe if you have noisy/active toddlers but they are happy for you to let the kids play in the front. There are lots of highchairs and a few children’s books on the large table at the front. The only downside is that there is no babychanging facility. A much better alternative to Costa if you want better, cheaper coffee in a clean, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.

This is my all time favourite place to go to after dropping the kids at nursery! Equally when I have the little blighters in tow we have fun, they both make a bee line for the large communal table at the front, with long wooden benches, perfect for sliding along and sitting on in a v fidgety manner.
I love Dan’s Cafe (as my 4 yr old son calls it), because a) the coffee is AMAZING and v reasonably priced, with loyalty cards (buy 7 coffees get 8th free). b) the pretty venue is tasteful with care and attention into the presentation of all the food in the fridges, as well as pretty spotty cups to slurp from (that’s my kids slurp not me obviously!) c) the staff are great, my son really LOVES Dan, and will not walk past the cafe without a shout through the open door ‘Dan!!!’
Lots of thoughtful touches: Free water provided complete with jug, paper cups and straws. Free babycinos (Italian reared owner so v child friendly).
Limited buggy space, so not ideal for v large group meets, plus no baby changer, but in some ways this is a positive because it allows the cafe to entice all genre, with no particular typecast dominating. Clientelle then is a real mixture, with lots of familiar faces, all ages welcome, though really loud boisterous children may require a calm enducing run around the park first to avoid some stares (depending on the time of the day!)
I challenge you to give this cafe a go, you won’t be disappointed!

Great coffee, great service, great value. We’ve only been here for a week but the staff already knew our favorite coffee order, was very friendly and fast in service. The 6 for 5 loyalty card is another bonus, as 5 coffees can be drunken a lot faster than 10 which is the normal bonus.
This is definitely a place to go when you’re around in East Finchley!
